What do you look for in a Smartphone?

gpu-processor-iconEvery day we are bombarded with new smartphones that pose as “the next big thing”, a huge leap from last year’s flagship. They feature better cameras, faster processors and higher resolution screens typically. I find it really curious that many people guide their decision by the processing power. Our current flagships use 4 processing cores and Samsung has announced processors with 8 cores. Even Apple in its latest iPhones and iPads uses the 64 bit A7X chip, which is desktop class architecture. But, in the cold light of day, do we need that much performance in our everyday tasks?

One of the smartphones I use is a Nexus 4. It features a Snapdragon S4 Pro processor (4 cores at 1.5 GHz) and I have been recently testing out a Nexus 5 (Snapdragon 800 with 4 cores at 2.2 GHz). This according to all specifications, is a huge leap forward, but the truth is, in the cold light of day, I wasn’t able to notice much of a difference between the two in day to day tasks.

So, what do you look for in a Smartphone? What makes you change to a new one?

I recently found this video online and I found it a curious idea that fits in with this topic.

What do you think? Don’t hesitate to drop me a line in the comments!

See you next time!
